TMWheelpacker

Description

As can be seen, Wheelpacker consists essentially of a user interface, pivot, container, support stands, and wheel. The design and interaction of these components is proprietary and exclusive property of Tech-Solutions.

These components are described and discussed as to the part they play as follows.

  • The USER INTERFACE adapts the user to the Wheelpacker. It consists of an adjustable (for user height) rigid frame with padded hip belt and shoulder straps, also adjustable, and includes a sternum strap. The built-in adjustability maximizes comfort and utility. The user interface is designed to provide the user with wide areas of load distribution across the shoulders for the vertical load plus a high degree of leverage to resist a modest torque component, both of which are transferred from the following wheeled container through the pivot.

  • The TWO-AXIS PIVOT is mounted to and detachable from the user interface. It provides a wide range of motion to enable easy turning, accommodate uneven terrain and trail obstacles, and allow user access to the front of the unit. Among its other unique features are wear-compensated bearings, and an automatic Y-axis pivot lockout for stability in overly steep trail conditions.

Connecting the pivot to the container is a vertically adjustable and detachable (from the container) drawbar. The adjustability accommodates the height of the user and has a very wide range. The drawbar is rigidly connected to the container via a hand-tightened clamp. Loosening this clamp and withdrawing the drawbar allows the user interface to be pivoted over the container for "wheelbarrowing".

  • The super tough, molded linear polyethylene CONTAINER not only carries and keeps all your hiking and camping gear dry (contrast that with a leaky backpack); it does more. It is both the frame of the unit and its "carrying case". For travel to far off backcountry experiences, Wheelpacker disassembles and packs into itself along with a lot of gear or clothes and is carried with a shoulder strap. It and a duffel bag could be the only luggage needed for the trip. Its lid is hinged at the rear with a snap-latch at the front and is large enough to find what is needed without unpacking.

  • Wheelpacker has two SUPPORT STANDS. On the trail they are folded alongside the container. In camp or any other time the unit is parked, the stands are deployed and provide secure, three point, upright and easily accessible positioning. The stands are easily reached by the user when on the trail. They also include handles for "wheelbarrowing" the unit when desired.

  • Having only a single WHEEL is absolutely necessary for most normal backcountry trail travel. The narrow places, uneven terrain, water bars, blowdowns, roots and rocks preclude using two wheels. Wheelpacker is narrower than its user and will go over anything that is safe for its user to step over.

The super effective linear pull V-type brakes open wide for removal of the quick disconnect aluminum alloy wheel. This combination, along with the detachable user interface makes disassembly and transport to the trailhead convenient no matter what type vehicle is used. Mud, leaves, and other debris that sticks to the tire are no problem either. An adjustable scraper surrounds the tread to prevent accumulation.

Wheelpacker features a sophisticated twin coil spring and ball joint wheel suspension system to smooth out the bumps of the trail. As these are encountered, the suspension converts the sharp shock into a low magnitude, long duration vertical load at the wheel for user comfort.

  • As Wheelpacker rolls down the hiking trail into the backcountry, its wheel revolutions are counted electronically. A programable computer converts the revolutions into distance and reads out miles traveled, time of day, elapsed time and other valuable information.
